Review: Maybe Someday

Maybe Someday
Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“I never realized how powerful desire could be. It consumes every part of you, enhancing your senses by a million. When you’re in the moment… all you can do is focus on the person in front of you.”

Once again, Colleen Hoover has delivered an emotionally charged masterpiece that will capture your heart! Maybe Someday is not your typical romance but I promise you, it is one of the most deeply passionate and uniquely beautiful books I have ever read.

Pure perfection!

5++ stars!!

Maybe Someday was utterly unique and refreshingly original. I honestly do not have a single other book to compare it to, nor have I ever read a plot line even similar to this one. Everything from the way the characters met to the twists and reveals all took me by surprise and kept me guessing the whole way through.

Colleen Hoover’s writing has this beautifully gripping, compelling quality to it that draws you right into the lives of her characters. From the first few lines, I was fully immersed in this story and stayed connected until the very last word.

Ridge was the kind of guy who everyone will fall in love with – a gorgeous, sweet, talented musician with a heart of gold and who was also hiding a big secret. Everything about him made me either swoon or melt.

Sydney was one of those heroines who I just immediately liked. She was kind, endearing and earned my respect more than once with the way she handled the situations she was put in.

I truly loved everything about this book and about their romance – the texting, the flirting, the slow but powerful build of their connection… the music, the song writing, the heart ache and also the pranks. The strong emotional undercurrent that ran throughout the entire book was so intense that you could just feel it in every single scene.

There were moments that made my laugh so hard that I had to stop reading until I could recover and moments that broke my heart so completely that I just sat there with tears streaming down my face.

The way Ridge and Sydney connected through their music was hypnotic, beautiful and downright hot. They each had something that the other needed and pretty soon, the lines between making music and falling in love began to blur.

There was also an incredibly awesome feature worked into the book where real, listenable songs that had been written and recorded specifically for this book were integrated throughout the story in such a way where you would be prompted to listen to them at the exact right time. And holy wow were they just out-of-this-world incredible!!! For me, the most special part of all was being able to listen to the song after watching them create it from scratch together. It was truly just a magical experience.

The story is also told in alternating POVs so the reader really gets to see all the different sides of the story and is really able to connect to each character individually.

But… if you want a little idea of what to expect from the story, then read on. I don’t reveal any major twists and I don’t tell you how the story ends, but because of the complexity of the situation, I felt the need to talk a little about how it made me feel.

Here goes…

I’m just going to lay it right out: there’s a love triangle. But this is not your average love triangle. Just like the rest of the book, this one is completely different and unique and despite the fact that as a reader I’m not usually fond of triangles, I absolutely adored the way this one was written.
We actually found out very early on in the story that Ridge had a girlfriend, Maggie, and it was abundantly clear that she wasn’t just a random girl he was semi-attached to. No, this was a girl who he was completely and totally, til-the-day-I-die in love with. She was kind, sweet, loving and honestly just a beautiful character both inside and out. But when Ridge and Sydney met, they too had an undeniable, soul-deep connection. Now, before you ask, this is also not a cheating book either. Ridge loved Maggie and would never want to hurt her, and Sydney had just come out of a relationship where she was betrayed by her boyfriend so in no way would she ever want to put another girl in the situation she was in. But, despite their best intentions, that connection between her and Ridge grew stronger and stronger even though they both fought it with everything they had.

“Having her so close feels as though we’ve created our own personal space and nothing from outside our world can make its way in, and nothing from inside our world can make its way out.”

Emotionally, my heart was all over the place. I genuinely did not know what to feel. I was so conflicted because there was no right or wrong here. No good guy or bad guy. I knew that this was Ridge and Sydney’s story so my heart was rooting for them but I couldn’t help but wonder… what if this had been Ridge and Maggie’s story? Because in that case, Sydney would have been the “bad guy” for representing a threat to their relationship. I mean, as much as I hated to admit it, didn’t Maggie deserve to be with Ridge just as much as Sydney? And it didn’t help that both Sydney and Maggie were such wonderfully sweet people and neither of them had any flaws that made it easy to justify disliking them for any reason.

“Hey, Heart. Are you listening? You and I are officially at war.”

This is not a book where you can hate anyone. You can’t be annoyed with anyone, you can’t fault anyone, and there is no one to blame. There’s nothing that makes you feel better about or justifies what you’re feeling. I didn’t want anyone to get hurt and I couldn’t pick a side. It just hurt. But I had no idea who I was hurting for. The best answer would be everyone.

“Nothing in my life has ever felt so good, yet hurt so achingly bad.”

There were no ‘teams’. No black, white, or even grey zones. There were just people. And feelings. Strong, powerful, all-consuming feelings. And choices. Impossibly painful, heart-wrenching choices and still… no. right. answer. But honestly, the fact that this book was able to mess with my emotions so strongly was one of the things I loved most about it.

“God, I hate feelings. Or I hate my conscience. The two are constantly at war and I’m not sure which one I’d rather turn off.”

The thing is, you can’t help who you fall in love with. No matter what the brain insists on, at the end of the day, the heart calls the shots and no matter how much we try and fight it, or deny it, it’s the one thing that can’t be covered up.

I loved that the author had the guts to write a story where there was no “bad guy” because it meant that there was no easy way to justify your feeling and with the way it was written, I truly felt each character’s conflict as though it were my own. Especially Ridge. I swear I spent half the book just wishing I could hug him.

This was one of those rare books where I never once, not even for a single moment, was angry or annoyed with anyone. Not to say that I wasn’t conflicted about their actions because holy hell was I ever torn and utterly unsure of everything I was feeling but at the same time, every single thing that happened was understandable. I was rooting for everyone’s happiness and I loved that I was never (not even in the end) made to hate anyone.

The ending was really just brilliantly laid out and incredibly well paced leaving me with the most wonderful feeling knowing that every single part of the story had been wrapped up.

This book kept me up reading til 4:30AM. I couldn’t put it down, couldn’t glance away from the page, and as desperate as I was to find out what was going to happen, I just didn’t want it to end.

It was fresh, unique, and unpredictable. I felt fully connected to each of the characters and I honestly don’t have a single complaint to make. This book is perfect. Truly perfect

I can’t recommend it highly enough. Read this book. Live it. Love it. Allow it to take over your heart. It’s an unforgettable journey that every reader should take.

Rating: 5++ stars! Standalone romance.

Also, on a side note, I really strongly visualized every single thing in my head as I was reading. Every scene, every character, every location is crystal clear in my mind so I’m going to pray to the movie gods that this story ends up on the big screen because it would make one helluva movie!

review766520“For all the girls with curves… May you love them, may you rock them, and may you find the lucky bastard that appreciates them.”

Errhmmm .. Yeah, Here I am again writing a nice review about a AR book. Can you believe it?? well I can’t too, so i don’t blame ya!!! 😛

Honestly, i liked this more than Shielding Lily, but its not the writing or plot or anything, i am just a sucker for this kindof stories where MC’s meet via any mode like letter’s or online chats or forums anything. So, this book had me from the very first line. I had this goofy grin on my face all the time i was reading this book.

This book had many plot-mistakes errmm whatever the other word is about it, i don’t know. The writing was not so good with a chessy as hell plot-line which i loved apparently. and i also don’t think that would be true if all vaginas tasted “… like cookies and sweet peaches” like Katie’s does in this book.

766520“Goddamn, she better be single, because I’ve never seen the woman and I want to marry her. She got my cock hard with a box of cookies. I can’t begin to imagine the possibilities.”

This book is really a cute, smexy and chessy short read which will left you fuzzy and warm, but only if you think you can ignore all the literary mistakes and a unreasonable love plot-line well i can’t say plot twist because it wasn’t their.

But the thing is that we know all these things will happen in an Alexa Riley book. So, its not her fault or anyone’s. We should open a AR book with our eyes and legs open and shouldn’t expect a story with a solid plot-line and developed characters.

766520“I’m a pretty possessive kind of guy. Especially when it comes to things I like.”

So, you must be thinking why giving a 3 stars to book you liked. Well, quiet honestly it’s not in my to give a AR book more than 3 stars because 4 star means that, this book has everything you loved just little bit mistakes here & there. So, frankly i can’t or won’t give a 4 star to a AR book because there are so many good books out there to read and rate as well as they are written.

So, yeah you won’t ever find me giving a AR book more than a 3 stars. For me 3 star books are the books I LIKED.

Ignore my babbling, I f you want to read a nice hot read with a HEA, this book is for you!

766520“And I didn’t forget the PS. Just not sure you’re ready to read it yet. PS…”

Goodreads:

Gideon always has a plan. His plans include running for class president, becoming head of the yearbook committee, and having his choice of colleges. They do NOT include falling head over heels for his best friend and next door neighbor, Kyle. It’s a distraction. It’s pointless, as Kyle is already dating the gorgeous and popular head cheerleader, Ruby. And Gideon doesn’t know what to do.
Kyle finally feels like he has a handle on life. He has a wonderful girlfriend, a best friend willing to debate the finer points of Lord of the Rings, and social acceptance as captain of the basketball team. Then, both Ruby and Gideon start acting really weird, just as his spot on the team is threatened, and Kyle can’t quite figure out what he did wrong…

review

This was some Pretty cool light stuff i just read,“Been Here All Along” was a story of two bestfriends turned boyfriends. lol It was a merely a light short read, maybe coupla 150 or 200 pages short. I liked the atmosphere of this book, the friendship of Gideon & Kyle made me realize that i want to have a friendship like they had.

I seriously have to change my friendship goals. TBH!!I really liked the writing, the writer really can push off some extra drama with a class. 😛 Seriously, their was alot of drama in it, that shouldn’t have been but again it all made the book more warmer and high school type, maybe! 😛

I liked Ruby, i don’t know why many people hate her. She was a nice girl and had some dangerous impulse like a normal human being had in normal life’s.She was not Regina George form Mean Girls. No matter what you think.

I liked all the side characters and how we got everyone’s POV. I would’ve liked Ezra & Ruby’s story more, TBH.I just loved, Gideon’s family, damn they were sooooo cool. I am jealous. :/ All in all, this was a light romantic read, with some really good characters.

Overall, I thought this book was a cute, if predictable, read. I wished that the characters and storyline were a bit more developed but if you’re looking for a sweet/fluffy LGBT romance that’s geared a bit more towards a younger audience, you might want to try this one out.

Recommended to all, who want to read some light stuff.

Review: Smut by Karina Halle.

Smut

Smut by Karina Halle

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“My idea of romance is a guy who will take me to see an Avengers film and doesn’t mind dressing up like Loki afterwards.”

Smut was the first book I’ve ever read of this author. And believe me she blown’d me away by her writing and sense of humour. I liked this book, especially Main Characters and also Amanda’s room mate Ana, oh I loved that ancient lady. The plot was the main thing that blown’d me away and sold this book to me. I liked how Karina Halle wrote about the reality of SMUT and how many people prejudice it and the people who are reading it.

“Heroine is gorgeous but she doesn’t know it… Must be a doormat and void of personality or any interesting characteristics so that the reader can interject their own selves. A virgin is preferred but she must be able to get off on command.”

“Dirty talking alpha male. Extremely large penis. Built like The Rock. A millionaire is good, but a billionaire is better. Make sure he donates to Africa or does some charity work even though he’s an asshole with a damaged past.”

I loved how Karina Hale wrote something more in new-adult.
Not soo much drama. Not much angst.
Not second-chances. No ex-climbing in life..
Not to much of EVERYTHING.

SMUT was different than any other New-adult. I really liked the way Karina didn’t described Blake’s past. Like every author described MC’s past in half of the book. I REALLY LIKED IT. I also liked that it wasn’t insta-love and insta-lust in it, everything was building at the right time. I loved the books with good character development. Character Development is one of the great qualities of a good book.

“Keep it in your pants.” I pause, trying to keep my eyes from staying on his crotch. “Wait, are you saying you’re hard right now?”
He scratches at the scruff of his chin, eyes dancing. “Pretty much, considering what I’m writing. Just say the word cock again.”
“Fuck you.”
“Well what do you know,” he says lazily. “The word fuck works too.”

This book made me root for them, i liked their crazy banter and oh my the tension was seriously hot 😀 I liked how their relationship make a total 360 from hating each other to being friends and from being friends to being friends-with-benefit’s. I was always waiting for them to being more than just a friends. It was quite a thrill to see a relationship building in front of your eyes.

“He’s got that look I love in his eyes, the one only I bring to him.
Sleepy, relaxed, happy. Absolutely satisfied.
But there’s tenderness brimming underneath, something rare and beautiful, like a key that makes my heart want to burst free, like a bird from a cage.”

So Basically!! The story starts with Amanda hating Blake’s guts because he was cocky bastard and a manwhore. And then Viola they are writing partners, Probably this assignment made them, i mean force them to work together. and when they started working together Blake is still a cocky bastard, its not a story where THOSE kind of MC are whom are hiding behind a wall. Though, Blake has his flaws and insecurities but he is also a good guy helping his step-brother kevin and his dad in book-store. So i liked Blake’s character alot. and HE WAS A BOOKNERD, this was the best thing. I’ve never ever read about the guys who are a huge booknerd in any novel. So it was a plus. THE FEELS WERE AMAZING.

Whether you’re reading to be changed and challenged or reading to escape for a few hours, get off and maybe make good with your husband, who cares? No one should be judged by what they read, nor should authors by what they write

I KNOW i am not making any sense here with review because seriously i Really liked this book. The lightness with the amazing plot line, it was all i could take in. But do me a favour and read this book. Its amazing and hilarious. I had so many LAUGH OUT LOUD moments. It has sort of every thing..

Dear You;

Sometimes, we feel like we are alone in the midst of People you called Family, like we don’t belong here, that we belong somewhere else. Like everything around us has changed, every person, every smell, every face, even every day, but its not it.

Nothing is changed, people are still people wearing a mask for so long that they don’t even tell the difference themselves which one is the real. Every face you have known from the very second of your existence is still the same with a breathtaking smile and shining eyes but still haunted when they sleep in the darkness of tumblr_nln2n1wgms1r46fnpo1_500their rooms. Every smell is the same, the smell of the love your mum cook in the kitchen, the smell of you father always disappointed in you, the smell of betrayal that just won’t go away, the smell of the new success you just got, the smell of regrets. Everything is same but yet different because what has changed is YOU.

You have changed, because its important don’t let that change make you think that everyone around you is changed, don’t let it choke you.Change is must, it comes at the right time. Maybe your right time has come?? maybe your are at the path of changing. Just embrace the new change in yourself, learn with it and polish it so people around you can see that this, this new you is not the temporary its EVERLASTING. Because this change is called Adult-hood. You just don’t became a adult by celebrating your 18th birthday its more than that.

Its the feeling of utter devastation, a horror that you are not you, like someone else has crawled in your body and even the greatest of the days gives you a melancholy feeling.

depleting_snapshotBe the home you deserve, be the human you know you are. Just don’t fall apart because its easy to fall apart more than making the pieces you already have, stronger. Stick with your family, let them see you, the real you, let you happiness shown in your faces its when you will make a change in your own home. No one has changed they still love you. The love of family is Natural, we have got it from the start and will get it to the end.

Be a person, who your mother talks to whenever she needs anything, be the person, whom your sister came to whenever she thinks she need a favour, be a person your brother come to whenever he think he wants something but dad won’t give him, be the person whom you dad admires in heart but cannot show it. The change starts here with your family because they are the rope who held us when we are falling apart. We only accept the change when we see it be accepted by the people we love. Otherwise the change is not the change its called selfishness or the utter devastation of being a oblivious self. But remember it, In the end, the decision is always your no matter what other thinks, what you think will help you mould in a person you will be tomorrow. No matter your decision is wrong or right.

ARC: The Mortifications by Derek Palacio

Derek Palacio’s stunning, mythic novel marks the arrival of a fresh voice and a new chapter in the history of 21st century Cuban-American literature.
In 1980, a rural Cuban family is torn apart during the Mariel Boatlift. Uxbal Encarnación—father, husband, political insurgent—refuses to leave behind the revolutionary ideals and lush tomato farms of his sun-soaked homeland. His wife Soledad takes young Isabel and Ulises hostage and flees with them to America, leaving behind Uxbal for the promise of a better life. But instead of settling with fellow Cuban immigrants in Miami’s familiar heat, Soledad pushes further north into the stark, wintry landscape of Hartford, Connecticut. There, in the long shadow of their estranged patriarch, now just a distant memory, the exiled mother and her children begin a process of growth and transformation.
Each struggles and flourishes in their own way: Isabel, spiritually hungry and desperate for higher purpose, finds herself tethered to death and the dying in uncanny ways. Ulises is bookish and awkwardly tall, like his father, whose memory haunts and shapes the boy’s thoughts and desires. Presiding over them both is Soledad. Once consumed by her love for her husband, she begins a tempestuous new relationship with a Dutch tobacco farmer. But just as the Encarnacións begin to cultivate their strange new way of life, Cuba calls them back. Uxbal is alive, and waiting.
Breathtaking, soulful, and profound, The Mortifications is an intoxicating family saga and a timely, urgent expression of longing for one’s true homeland.

Review:

The Mortications is a story of a Cuban family; mother, father and two children in the 1980’s. The mother, Soledad, flees with her two children, Ulises and his twin sister Isabel, to Hartford, Connecticut. Soledad is fearful what may become of her children if she does not leave immediately. The father has joined the rebels against the Cuban government. The Mortifications is a telling story of each of the family members discovery and rediscovery of themselves. The prose is rich and full of detail. The life path of the characters seems to mirror the beauty and struggles of Cuba.

This is not typically a book that I would reach for, but I was interested enough to request it for review. It is a rather slow pace, but it is beautifully written. It isn’t like most immigrant stories in that there’s no struggle to adjust to life in a new land, but rather a family realizing they can never escape the shadow of their past and the Cuba they left behind. There’s a letter that arrives in the middle of the story, and everything that happens after this seems fairly predictable. But that doesn’t hurt as the beautiful prose and great characters make for a moving read.

“They’re talking as if nothing’s happened, Soledad said to herself, and the jealousy ran from her ears into her heart, where it settled into her aorta and reshaped itself as longing and desire, the kind of want that makes one capable of poor but magnanimous decisions.”

This definitely aspires to be real literature. And I can forgive most of my issues with the novel, since the author didn’t stretch it out into a thousand page chore to read. At three hundred pages (with generous spacing, font, etc.,) it is a day or two read. I enjoyed it; I felt like the author had a message that was important to him, but it was a difficult, meandering, multifaceted message. Personally, like another reviewer wrote, it kind of fell apart for me toward the end. I got some out of it, but some of it (mainly Isabel) was lost on me, and she seemed pretty unbelievable during the last half of the novel. Maybe that could have used a little more fleshing out; a little more description of her inner monologue to make it ring true. But still, I’m thankful he kept it short–it had the feeling of a long short story, which is way better than feeling like a novel that drags on.

Over all i liked this book and the plot. I loved how it shows the difficulties of the life of immigrates and how thy survive every coming diificulty. With a great prose, this novel was wriiten really beautifully.

“I want you to be well aware that ring or not, I’m still the same Andrew.”
“Or Liam…”
“No, Andrew.” He kissed me again, more passionately this time. “Liam fell in love with the wrong woman…

Andrew didn’t…”

This was like icing on the top with a cherry.

I loved this extended epilogue, specially that it was 6 years later …

“Is it true that we’re required to take turns bringing you coffee every day?”
I looked at the coffee mug on my desk, at the sign-in sheet that listed which student had brought it today.
“It’s not a requirement,” I said, picking up the cup. “But if you miss your day to bring me my coffee, I’ll make sure everyone in this class regrets it.”

Especially that Andrew was a fucking teacher,

You can imagine Andrew as a teacher, it would be hell, Hell for the poor students.

But i will also kill to have a teacher like Andrew, yummmmmmm!!

Andrew & Aubrey’s story was one of the best love stories i’ve read and loved.

“I wanted to propose to you several years ago, but I didn’t want to hold you back or distract you from focusing on your career, so I bought the ring and decided I would wait until you accomplished everything you wanted, until we could actually enjoy some time together.”

A woman stood up and put her hand over her heart, mouthing, “Awww…”

“And even though you get under my skin like no other, and you continue to push me out of my comfort zone…There’s no one I’d rather be with, and there’s nothing I would rather do than fuck your pussy for the rest of my life.”

JUST.WOW!!

Everything we had was built on lies…

I was really shocked to see that the last book was 200+ long. But believe me i was happy that it was long. So we can get more of Andrew & Aubrey for the last time. This series just ended really fast. I maybe completed this series in one sitting that means 2 or maybe in two & half hours. I would’ve loved if this series was dragged. Honestly.

Reasonable Doubt: Volume 3 was far the best book in this series and more angsty. We got to know about the past of Andrew, not just the spinets we got in past books, but a full on ride from the past. Seriously, reading about Andrew’s past was really really painful. The guy lost everything he ever loved. but i was also happy that till the end we got the same Andrew we have known fro the very start. Infact we got a little bit of old caring Andrew too.

“I fucking love you, Aubrey… And I’ll do whatever it takes to show you that.”

Like i said before in my review of Reasonable Doubt: Volume 2 that Andrew has to do alot of growling if he want Aubrey back. And i was damn on the money. Man did Andrew make the growling part the best. ❤ He seriously is the cockiest character I’ve ever read, and one of the best too. I bloody love this guy so much & the fact he is lawyer is also not helping. I have a thing for Lawyers. Specially their mouths. Yeah yeah I’m pathetic. I KNOW THAT. Specially i loved those past email conversation of Thoreu & Alysaa, there was nothing more good than their old friendship.

You and I will still be friends a few months from now, and you’ll be completely okay with not seeing my face.
Watch.

You and I will be fucking a few months from now, and the only reason I’ll be okay with not seeing your face is because you’ll be riding my cock as I bend your ass over a table.
Watch.

I loved that Andrew did work on his & Aubrey’s relationship. Because it lacked the strength from the start , sure their was sparking chemistry between them but we also want some high end relationship too. I liked the part of their date. and all the things. That subway, and how Andrew was so caring about Aubrey. So, at the end we got everything we ever wanted in this series. So, this was the last goodbye to my dear Andrew. Oh boy! I will miss the hell of you and your cockiness.

“I liked you as “Thoreau, but I loved you as Andrew.
